Definition
Multi-entity describes a system or set of books that handles several legal entities, each with its own registrations, currency and accounts, inside one environment.
Multi-entity meaning for a group of companies
Groups of companies, such as a trading company with a subsidiary in another country, must keep each entity’s books separately for tax and statutory purposes, but want shared customers, items and users, and a combined view. A multi-entity system lets staff switch between companies, limits who can see which, numbers documents per entity and consolidates the results.
The alternative, a separate system for each company, means duplicate master data and consolidation in spreadsheets.
Example: one workspace holds a Dubai entity in AED and a Riyadh entity in SAR, each with its own VAT number and letterhead. Read more in running a UAE and a Saudi company in one system.
