# Quotation revision

Quotation revision meaning: a new, numbered version of a quote the customer has already seen.

Definition

A quotation revision is a new version of a quotation that has already been issued, created when the price, quantities or terms change after the customer has seen it.

## Quotation revision meaning and numbering

Revisions keep a clear record of what the customer was offered and when. They’re usually numbered with a suffix such as R1 or R2, so both sides refer to the same version, and the reason for each change, such as a lower price, a substituted brand or a longer validity, is noted.

Example: a mechanical contractor asks for 10% off a EUR 48,000 [quotation](https://1flux.ai/glossary/quotation); the supplier issues revision R1 at EUR 43,200 and keeps the original on file.

A common mistake is overwriting the original file, which leaves no proof of what was first quoted. A revision replaces the earlier version for the same enquiry; a new enquiry gets a new quotation. A good [audit trail](https://1flux.ai/glossary/audit-trail) shows who revised it and why.
